Pediatric Pastoral Care
Pediatric Pastoral Care
Because we know that tending to your child’s whole health extends beyond caring for their physical needs, our compassionate chaplains offer round-the-clock emotional, spiritual and religious support to people of all faiths and religious backgrounds. With a heart for helping children and their families through their most difficult moments, we stand ready to provide crisis care and counseling. But since we also know they can make a big difference during treatment, we’re also ready to bring the small everyday blessings sick children need to feel strong and well-supported.
Services Centered on Your Unique Needs
Our goal is to be a comforting presence, however that looks for your family. Our chaplains can:
- Connect you to helpful spiritual and religious resources. Designed to encourage personal exploration and meaningful encounters, these resources can help your child connect with their own beliefs and find comfort in their faith.
- Provide spiritual companionship. Through pre- and post-treatment prayers, we can help your family find the strength and peace you need to make it through difficult situations.
- Talk one-on-one with your child. By allowing your child to start the conversation, we can zero in on their unique concerns and needs. And by taking the time to address each of those, we help them feel understood and respected.
Sacred Spaces to Help You Heal
When you want to be alone with your thoughts, we’ve got you covered. Our Interfaith Chapel is designed to be an indoor sanctuary for prayer, meditation and contemplation. We’ve also carved out beautiful green spaces around our campus, including our Honor Garden, that are perfect for quiet reflection and remembrance.
Support for UMC Children’s Providers
As chaplains, we understand the emotional demands of pediatric healthcare. That’s why our team also provides support to you as a member of the UMC Children’s team, including:
- Critical incident stress management (CISM) services. CISM is a structured, peer-supported service for critical or traumatic events. As a staff member, you can debrief and process your emotions, which helps to prevent long-term stress or burnout.
- EAP counseling services. Through confidential sessions with trained professionals and one-on-one coaching, you can explore personal challenges and develop coping strategies.
- Peer-led support groups. Find mutual help and understanding. Group leaders encourage members to share their feelings and experiences while promoting empathy and solidarity.
- Spiritual replenishment education. Designed to help you manage stress and maintain balance in your personal and professional lives, these programs cover prayer, self-reflection and other spiritual practices.
